all of my sketches in random order For the past few years I have participated in the challenge hosted by Marc Holmes to sketch 100 people in five days. This year I made it to 93 people sketched. All the sketches are done from life except for three. It was fun to get back to sketching people in an urban setting. I feel every year this always teaches me much about the state of people. It is always fun to participate. I enjoy seeing the other artists work on Facebook. It is great to get out in the "wild" after winter, for us in Rome it is pleasant as far as the weather is concerned. In the end I learned a great deal how to improve my observational drawing skills. One can never do this enough. Mostly I see by the end of the week I care less about the outcome, I become better when I simplify and acquire quickness. Hopefully next year I will make it to 100, in the end the challenge is already in just trying.

I purchased two beautiful roses from the market and have been studying them, every which way that I can.
I am dedicating myself to sketching desserts, cookies and treats recently. I feel there is something comforting about sketching food. Bloom
watercolor on Arches paper 38x 28cm I recently purchased a bouquet of Daffodils which I have been enjoying painting. I first painted a single bloom from direct observation (pictured below). I then set up a still life on my dining room table. I started painting it from life but then had to resort to a photograph. The flowers wilted before I could finish. Yellow is always a challenging hue with watercolor to obtain the subtle values while struggling to keep the flower fresh. Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico
